Artistic residencies are places for international artists to meet. The main aim of the OPEN A.i.R. programme, as a legacy programme of Pilsen - European Capital of Culture 2015 facilitates the opening of cultural scene and the exchange of ideas, creative experience, processes, techniques and contacts. The programme has been focusing on receiving Czech and foreign artists and sending Czech artists abroad; there are on-going successful collaborations with residential programmes and centres of other countries.
Our artists in residence focus on researching diverse topics and creating art works of different genres. We especially welcome artists from the field of design, digital media, new media, those artists who deal with innovative techniques, with DYI projects, topic of recycling and interactive art.
OPEN A.i.R. is also very much interested in audience development and education. The residencies are a tool for uncovering the processes of creating art and the role of the artist in today’s society. Through regular studio visits, informal meetings with the artists and art education workshops for the broader public, school children and other interested groups, we want to show how contemporary artworks are being created, where the inspiration comes from, how the artists handle it, etc. By approaching things this way the public can be a part of the process of creation and not just a passive receiver.
We aim to build an international network of partners who are interested in bilateral cooperation and the aforementioned topics. In recent years we have worked closely with partners in Slovakia (Košice 2013), Poland (Wroclaw 2016), Germany (Kunstverein GRAZ e.V, Regensburg), the Netherlands (Motel Spatie, Arnhem), Japan (Youkobo ArtSpace), France (Stimultania) and others. We are also a proud member of Res Artis Worldwide Network of Artist in Residence spaces, through which we accept artists from all over the world for a so-called free residential program.
