Zajímá vás program? www.depo2015.cz DEPOvLETu 2020 From 6/30 to 8/28, the DEPO2015 courtyard was home to live concerts, gastronomic and musical evenings, a summer cinema, theater and special programs for families with children. The whole series of events was given the collective name "DEPOvLETU". The main goal of the project was to support the vibrant cultural scene in the region and support especially local independent artists and other cultural professions, which felt the difficult time associated with the virtual stoppage of cultural activity during the Covid-19 pandemic. DEPOvLETU is a comprehensive regular program consisting of several types of events. Tuesday and Friday evenings were enlivened by concerts, mainly by local independent artists and bands. Art Wednesdays were dedicated to summer cinema, author readings, and artistic performances intended for the general public and cultural connoisseurs. A pleasant combination of DJ sets and gastronomy as part of the Thursday programs "Eat'n'Beat" and "Saturday Cocktail" offered a different gastronomic experience each time. Last but not least, families with children were also taken into account, and as part of the afternoon program blocks – Depo for Children – the experience of theater performances was combined with workshops. As part of the Tuesday and Friday concerts, more than 30 open-air concerts by local bands were presented. On each of these evenings, it was possible to listen to an almost three-hour program by one or two bands. The musical genres were truly diverse. People could choose from a wide range, from swing to reggae to punk. Performers included the Pilsner Jazz Band, P.V.A., Tabasker, BT'n'J, Milan Samek, and many others. Thursdays and Saturdays hosted themed gastro evenings called "Eat'n'Beat" and "Saturday Cocktails" under the baton of HEY MAMA Grill&Bar, which prepared selected dishes and drinks from around the world. Dinners in the spirit of Texas BBQ Redneck Party, Taste of New York, and Mediterranean Seafood Compilation were accompanied by Pilsen DJs playing music to complement the good food and drinks. Art Wednesdays were relaxing, full of entertainment and art. The program included a summer cinema in cooperation with Finále Plzeň, author readings with Svět knihy, a performance by the French circus troupe Cie Pieds Perchés, an open-air SLAM Poetry exhibition, and a performance by Revival Kabaret Dubnička Lahoda. Sundays were reserved for families, who could enjoy theater, musical afternoons, and workshops starting at 3:00 p.m. Among the performing groups were Divadlo Rolnička, Divadlo Loutek Karlovy Vary, and Loutkové divadlo Špalíček. From August 17 to 22, 11 selected public locations became both a canvas and a stage for recognized domestic and foreign artists. Right in front of your eyes, traditional writers and subsequent authors who develop street art and graffiti in other directions conjure up their works. Remember how the first year of the successful Street Art Festival WALLZ took place: The face of the WALLZ festival is Michal Škapa aka Tron, one of the most important authors of the Czech graffiti scene. Škapa belongs to the strong generation of "writers" of the 90s, he has dozens of exhibitions and hundreds of art projects to his credit. He became a pioneer of so-called murals (huge street art paintings) in the Czech Republic. Among his most recent projects is KOSMOS at Václav Havel Airport in Prague, which became one of the largest murals in Central Europe. WALLZ will also feature 8 Czech and foreign street art artists - X-Dog, Jakub Janovský, the well-known Brno artist TIMO, Akrobad and Obras from Pilsen, as well as Ruin and Skirl - famous creators from Austria or successful Zbiok from Poland. Colorful street art performances will be complemented by an equally varied accompanying program. You can look forward to a graffiti jam or a street art workshop for children. The entire festival will end with the opening of a joint exhibition of all participating artists at DEPO2015 with DJs and dancers on 22 August from 18:00. The third year brought several novelties. This time, the program presented Czech bands and projects that were awarded not only here, but also abroad. The audience could, for example, watch the duo Kalle, Ochepovsky & ILÆY trio or The Valentines shortlisted for the Eurovision Song Contest. The stage also belonged to four up-and-coming bands who went through the DEPOvLETu Artist Academy professional training seminar in June. There was also the traditional Stand Up Comedy on a stand, a swing dance hall and, newly, an evening bar with a grill from the Ústředna DEPO café and bistro. DEPOvLETU kicked off on July 20 with Stand-up Comedy Na stojáka. Ester Kočičková returned to Pilsen after a long absence, accompanied by Dominik Heřman Lev and Petr Vydra. The following days were filled with evening concerts, which this time had a more alternative vibe. The courtyard of DEPO2015 came alive with the energetic music of sought-after producer Igor Ochepovský and live electronic music by the duo Bratři, who have represented the country at many prestigious international festivals. We were also visited by the nominees of the Eurovision Song Contest, The Valentines, the alternative band Kalle, praised by music journalists, together with the winners of the Karlovy Vary Region talent contest, The Sidewaves, and the well-travelled modern rock psychedelic bands Acid Row and Lambda. This year's selection of performers sought to better reflect the spirit of DEPO2015, where the concerts take place, while also offering a pleasant alternative to the more commercial performances that take place in Pilsen during the summer as part of other events and concerts. Four up-and-coming bands secured the opportunity to perform on stage thanks to completing the first year of the DEPOvLETU Artist Academy workshop for beginning musicians. The projects Her nature and The Amsterdam Hamster took the stage on the evening of July 21, followed by Nevergreen and Decode on the 27th. The concert marathon was enlivened by a swing dance party on July 26. A live swing band provided music for dancing and listening. DEPOvLETU was also spiced up by gastronomy. During the previous two years of the festival, more than 20 large-scale paintings by top artists from all over Europe were created on buildings, bridges and walls throughout Pilsen. Their works of art significantly improved the environment of selected locations in Pilsen, replacing unsightly peeling facades or old advertising banners. This trend will be followed by this year's edition, which will enrich the public space of the city with another dozen wall paintings. Among the invited artists were once again famous names from the Czech Republic and abroad, combining both a distinctive handwriting of realistic and figural painting, as well as colorfully engaging abstraction. This year's ambassador for the European Capitals of Culture was Tadas Šimkus from Lithuania's Kaunas 2022. The expected surprise was certainly the participation of world-renowned artist Brad Downey. This year's selection of locations for creation was very diverse - there was a nearby city center, a school facade, technical buildings, an underpass, part of the embankment, but also the much-discussed squatter's house in Jateční Street, where one of the most popular Czech street art artists, Chemis, left his painting. The festival was accompanied by a varied accompanying program in the form of a graffiti jam open to the general public, a Czech-German conference on art in public space and children's workshops. The DRAWetc studio was also involved with its artists. The world of signs, symbols and the cipher comes to life in a new interactive light exhibition from the DEPO2015 workshop BLIK x BLIK Character hunters. You will enjoy it to your heart's content and realize that writing is not only a piece of our history, but also a great adventure. Can you negotiate with the Blablator robot? Can you defeat the light gallows, write text in cuneiform or clear the interactive video mapping city of ads? Can you get all the characters and decipher the secret message along the way? The program was created during the preparatory years of the Plzeň - European Capital of Culture 2015 project, and during its existence, more than 500 volunteers participated in the organization of cultural, educational and research events through it. In 2015 alone, they devoted more than 6,000 hours of their free time to culture. The program continues to operate and DEPO2015 has become its home stage. Zajímá vás program? www.depo2015.cz Mise PLZEN 2015 Plzeň 2015 is a non-profit organization founded by the city of Pilsen for the purpose of preparing and implementing the program part of the European Capital of Culture 2015 project. After 2015, it transformed from a non-profit society to a registered institute with an extension of activity for an indefinite period to ensure the sustainability of selected projects and run the Creative Zone DEPO2015. Pilsen - European Capital of Culture 2015 project was one of the most extensive cultural projects in the history of the Czech Republic, which had an impact on the functioning of not only the entire city, but also the Plzeň Region with a significant impact abroad. The costs of implementing the "soft part" of the project reached EUR 18 million. Private sponsors contributed over EUR 1 million, the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic contributed EUR 4 million, the Pilsen Region and the European Commission contributed EUR 2 million, and the City of Pilsen contributed EUR 9 million. Overall, the result ended with a positive economic result, which was used for sustainable activities, especially the development of the DEPO2015 creative zone. Pilsen won the title in competition with 2 other cities (Ostrava and Hradec Králové) in 2010. This more than six-year process of transformation of the cultural scene in the West Bohemian metropolis brought, on the one hand, positive results in terms of an increase in tourism, an increase in awareness of the city or a fundamental change in participatory understanding culture and its transfer from classic stone buildings to public space. On the other hand, it was a difficult ordeal for city representatives, bureaucrats, the independent cultural scene and ordinary citizens. This investment in human capital and life experience for many is one of the main benefits of the entire project, which has also gone through difficult times. However, after a few years, it can be evaluated as a successful representation on the European cultural scene. The proof of this is that a number of projects continue successfully even years later. Over 4 dozen projects with German partners, 30 projects with Japanese partners and the involvement of 47 other countries in the program indicate the scope of the project and one of the main goals of the project – to support international cooperation and present the diversity of cultural heritage outside and beyond the borders of Europe. In 2015, the EHMK2015 events were visited by 1.2 million visitors, 515 volunteers joined the organization, and new infrastructure worth EUR 60 million was created. The increase in the number of accommodation compared to 2013 increased by 31%. The number of visits by German tourists increased by 70%, and even by 199% for Austrian tourists. The Pilsen region also reported a significant increase in tourism (14%). The economic part of the project evaluation shows, among other things, that the expenses of visitors associated with the EHMK amounted to over EUR 22 million in 2015 alone, and at least EUR 6.5 million was returned to public budgets. The fact that, for example, the increase in tourism continued in 2016 is also interesting. However, this effect is also visible in other successful EHMK cities. The main focus of the sustainability project Pilsen – EHMK2015 is the creative zone DEPO2015 , which, in addition to the operation of the former transport area, organizesfestival of lightFLASH FLASH , Czech-Bavarian cultural cooperation including the festival Meeting point in Pilsen and Regensburg , European Neighbor Day, WALLZ – Street Art Festival, Pilsen Design Week and a whole series of projects that originated or were inspired by the very principles defined in the 80s by the spiritual founder of the EHMK project - the Greek minister and actress Melina Mercouri. The purpose of this cross-border project was to restore former Czech-Bavarian contacts and cooperation, which had been significantly limited in the last two years, and to create new partnerships. In the evening part of the program, the Swing Devils musical group played at the swing dance hall at the same place. The interest in this event was very high - over 40 dancers from both countries took part in it. June 23, 2022, Nittenau, Brauerei Jakob The last meeting within the project, and at the same time the second one dedicated to small brewing, was held in Nittenau, Bavaria.
