Aislinn Janek

Aislinn Janek is an American Artist who is in residence within the Open A.i.R. program at DEPO2015 for the month of June 2019. She is interested in human universalities, intercultural relationships, and how language affects our sense of self. She is intrigued by fragmentation of information caused by language barriers, as well as, how memories are created, stored, and altered over time.

Aleš Čermák

Aleš graduated from Prague Academy of Fine Arts and since then he has been producing written publications (he is responsible for the independent publishing house Ausdruck Books), exhibitions and dramatic performances, which attempt to analyze in broad the world geopolitical context, as well as the so called topic of our time: the migrants. Since late 2014 he has been engaged in the work-in-progress project called "Adumbration of the Oncoming Failure".

NOZOMI WATANABE

The Japanese city of Hadano near Tokyo nestles in a kind of geological basin its suburbs edging up its surrounding mountainous ridges. Nozomi Watanabe, a Japanese artist, spent many childhood hours observing and drawing the shifting horizons she experienced residing in an area half way up these slopes. Like the steep escarpments and sight lines often seen in Japanese anime like those of Studio Ghibli, this was a world of shifting perspectives and associated parallax. Nozomi would often contemplate these seismic connections between grounded light plans and rotating nighttime constellations whose fluid relationships would vary according to her height in the hills, the whole visual field being held together and observed as if within some large radio dish or held in an optical lens.

Two main aspects linking Czechia and USA, inspired my creative project at Depo2015 in Pilsen: On one hand the place, an old bus depot, where I worked on the idea of transport and change, on the coming and going, on hopes and destinies and mostly on those who have long since traversed this space to look for a better chances, in the US where they arrived in great numbers in the nineteenth century to a place with the same name as their hometown: Pilsen in Chicago. In particular I explored the migration of women to the New World and how their lives changed as they started working in factories with new tools enduring hardships but at the same time building up a new existence.

Japanese artist Yasuhiro Chida (*1977) is interested in specific topics such as spatial awareness or change of somatic perception. He has originally studied architecture at Musashino Art University. Part of his creative process involves nature, where he spends much of his time, and which he incorporates into his work. He allows various forces of nature to act upon his installations, such as the movement of the sun across the sky throughout the day.
